Hype Song

“Firework” by Katy Perry

There’s something very exciting about being on the forefront of technological progress, and as an investor, I have the privilege of working with entrepreneurs and products that go on to change the world. Growth can be a lonely endeavor, but we’re focused on making it a team sport in all the right ways. How can we work together to make the most impact for each and every portfolio company?

One of the most important lessons I’ve learned during my time in venture is that a founder’s tenacity and ambition can overcome any obstacle. Armed with a trailblazing product, that founder can will a market into existence. I love working with founders with a near-maniacal dedication to creating an unrivaled experience for their customers, and the wisdom to never take them for granted.

When I find that kind of founder, I’m all in. It’s exhilarating to play even a small part in building and scaling the next generational technology company. I try to provide a steady voice of reason without running hot or cold, whether things are going swimmingly or getting a bit rocky. I move the needle by making customer and candidate intros, closing a rockstar executive and talking to customers to discern feedback and new product opportunities. But I’m also there to serve as a sounding board for the day-to-day concerns, which can be just as big. Founders are humans just like the rest of us, and sometimes all they need is a shoulder to lean on.
